Rifaina City Council creates commission to increase safety at reservoir where 6 people died in boat accident
The City Council of Rifaina (SP) has unanimously approved the formation of a special commission to enhance safety at the Jaguara reservoir following a tragic boat accident that resulted in six fatalities.
The City Council of Rifaina in São Paulo has established a Special Commission for Relevant Affairs (CEAR) aimed at addressing safety concerns at the Jaguara reservoir, where a boating accident claimed the lives of six individuals on February 28. This decision was unanimous and reflects the community's urgent response to the tragic event. The commission will include four council members and has an initial timeframe of 120 days to carry out its mandate.
During this period, the CEAR plans to conduct public hearings, technical meetings, and engage with various government entities, including the Brazilian Navy, Public Prosecutor's Office, state security forces, and governments of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, along with municipalities and the nautical sector. The proposal to create this committee was spearheaded by council member Ernani Baraldi, who intends to lead the CEAR in establishing a structured approach to enhance safety measures at the reservoir.
The committee's goals focus not only on immediate safety protocols but also on establishing a framework for the long-term management of the reservoir's water surface. This initiative comes in the wake of a significant community tragedy and aims to prevent future incidents through better organization and protection of both visitors and residents around the water area.
