24 Hour Delivery: This Special Service of the Post Office Starts in 6 Cities
India Post has launched a new premium service offering 24 and 48-hour delivery in six major cities to compete with private courier companies.
India Post is modernizing its services in response to competition from private courier companies. The introduction of new premium delivery services aims to enhance the speed and reliability of its offerings. The services, named '24 Speed Post', '24 Speed Parcel Post', and '48 Speed Post', guarantee delivery of parcels and documents within 24 and 48 hours, respectively.
The launch of these services was announced by India's Union Minister for Communications and Rural Development, Jyotiraditya Scindia, on March 17, 2026. Currently, these premium delivery options are available in six major metropolitan cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. This initiative seeks to provide quicker and safer delivery to customers, thus enabling the government postal service to effectively compete against private courier firms.
The introduction of this service signifies a strategic shift for India Post, aiming at retaining existing customers and attracting new ones by addressing their demands for faster delivery times. In the future, there are plans to extend these services to more regions across the country, further expanding the reach and reliability of India's postal services.
