Anvisa bans olive oil from the San Olivetto brand due to unknown origin

Anvisa has prohibited the sale and ordered the recall of all lots of extra virgin olive oil from the San Olivetto brand due to questions regarding its origin.

The Brazilian health regulatory agency Anvisa announced a ban on the sale and ordered a recall of all lots of extra virgin olive oil produced by the San Olivetto brand. This decision was officially published in the Diário Oficial da União on Monday, and it takes immediate effect. The main reason for the prohibition is the unknown origin of the product, which is linked to companies whose tax registrations have been suspended due to irregularities and inconsistencies since May 22, 2025.

The San Olivetto brand lists Agro Indústria e Cerealista Norte Paraná as the responsible company, but this entity's CNPJ has been suspended for registration inconsistencies. Additionally, the distributor, Comercial Alimentícia e Cerealista Capixaba, reportedly ceased its operations in November 2024. Attempts by the media to reach either company for comment have been unsuccessful, raising further concerns about the product's legitimacy and safety for consumers.

To assist consumers in identifying whether a product is irregular, Anvisa has provided an online tool where individuals can verify the status of the product or brand they are concerned about. Users can access this resource by visiting Anvisa's website and following a few simple steps to find out if the product meets regulatory standards. This incident is part of a broader effort by Brazil's regulatory authorities to ensure food safety and protect consumers from potentially harmful products.
