Trikala Prisons: The soles of shoes concealed drugs

A prisoner attempted to smuggle various narcotics hidden in the soles of sports shoes into the Trikala prison, but was intercepted by prison staff.

On Monday afternoon, correctional staff at the Trikala Prisons in Greece successfully prevented the introduction of illegal drugs into the facility. According to Greek police, a prisoner in transit attempted to smuggle different narcotic substances concealed within the soles of a pair of sports shoes. The shoe, which was seized during the inspection, contained a notable quantity of drugs including cocaine, methamphetamine, and processed cannabis.

The drugs were discovered during a thorough search led by the prison staff, resulting in the confiscation of a total of 50.5 grams of cocaine, 34.2 grams of crystal meth, and 156.5 grams of cannabis in paste form. Additionally, a number of unidentified pills mixed with other substances were also seized. The individual involved has been arrested, and the drugs have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine their exact composition.

The investigation into the incident is currently being handled by the Trikala Crime Suppression and Investigation Unit. This event underscores the ongoing challenges that correctional facilities face in preventing drug smuggling and maintaining security within prison environments, reflecting broader issues related to drug trafficking in the region.
