Winnipeg police have identified the victims of a double-fatal shooting, including a 16-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man, as the investigation remains ongoing.
In Winnipeg's North End, police have confirmed the identities of the two victims involved in a double-fatal shooting that occurred last week. The adult victim has been identified as Jason Robert Baker, 32, a member of the Hollow Water First Nation living in Winnipeg, while the teenage victim is a 16-year-old boy from Sagkeeng, Manitoba. Authorities reported that both victims were critically injured when officers responded to gunfire on Boyd Avenue last Thursday evening.
Following the shooting, both Baker and the teenage victim were transported to the hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries shortly after. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement actively seeking information from the public. They have urged anyone who may possess CCTV, cellphone, or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the shooting to assist with the case.
As of Tuesday, no arrests have been made, and the police homicide unit continues to follow leads in what remains a pressing public safety concern. The tragic loss of life has raised alarms within the community about gun violence, underscoring the need for ongoing dialogue and action surrounding public safety in urban areas such as Winnipeg.
