The condition of the Estonian border guards injured in a boat accident during a Frontex operation in Greece is reported to be stable.

The Estonian border guards injured in a severe boat accident near Megisti Island in Greece during a Frontex operation are in stable condition, according to Veiko Kommusaar, the head of the police and border guard department. The accident, which occurred on Monday afternoon, involved an Estonian patrol boat that sank after the incident. Out of the five people on board, four were taken to the hospital, while the Estonian ambassador, Karin Rannu, who was visiting the unit, was also present during the incident.

Kommusaar, speaking on Vikerraadio's "Uudis+", emphasized that the police and border guard department (PPA) is currently investigating the causes that led to the sinking of the patrol boat. Among those injured, two border guards sustained serious injuries and remain hospitalized; however, their conditions have stabilized. The swift action of medical personnel has been credited with ensuring that the injured received the necessary treatment promptly.

The incident raises concerns about the safety of personnel involved in international border operations, and the quick response of medical teams has highlighted the importance of readiness in such situations. The ongoing investigation aims to clarify the circumstances of the accident to prevent future occurrences during such joint missions with Frontex, particularly in high-risk zones like the Mediterranean Sea.
