For the First Time, the Inspection Defended the Action Kajúcnik Publicly. I Haven't Seen Fico's Press Conference Yet, Says the Team Leader

The police inspection in Slovakia publicly defended its prosecution of suspended police officers, marking a first and highlighting political ties and procedural issues.

Two weeks after the operation Kajúcnik, the police inspection organized a press conference asserting the legitimacy of the prosecution against suspended police officers including Ján Čurilla and others. Among those present was Juraj Lukáč, the head of the investigative team Veritas, who is behind the accusations, and Milan Maškara, the deputy director of the police inspection. Maškara emphasized that the inspection is not driven by revenge against former members of NAKA, stating "The police inspection does not have blood in its eyes." During the press conference, the officials faced hard questions regarding procedural errors, such as why the request for pre-trial detention for Ján Čurilla and Pavol Ďurka was submitted to the wrong court. They also addressed the sudden inclusion of parliamentary vice-chairman Tibor Gašpar in the list of victims in the Kajúcnik case and why Jaroslav Haščák, the founder of Penta, was interrogated. Maškara raised concerns about the timing, noting that the detention of investigators followed closely after Prime Minister Robert Fico's press appearance. The media event was cut short, reflecting the contentious atmosphere surrounding the case and the scrutiny of whether political influences are at play in these proceedings. The overall situation hints at a greater political narrative involving tensions within Slovakia's leadership and the policing of corruption amidst ongoing investigations.
