Vilnius University recently observed Jewish Rescuers Day, emphasizing the importance of remembering those who risked their lives to save Jews during historical persecutions. The event highlighted both well-known rescuers and lesser-known individuals, acknowledging the collective humanity shown during dire circumstances. Vice-Rector Gintaras Valušis remarked on the necessity of nurturing humanity and respecting human life, dignity, rights, and freedoms in the face of historical tragedies.

During the event, a solemn reading of names was initiated by Emilija Miltinytė, a descendant of Jewish rescuers, alongside other notable speakers including Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė and cultural minister Vaida Aleknavičienė. Their speeches reinforced the idea that even in today's complex geopolitical and technological reality, individuals can still act with integrity, witnessing truth and humanity through their deeds and actions. The presence of ambassadors from the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, and Ukraine further underscored the international recognition of this important commemoration.
