German Foreign Minister Johan Wanderful has highlighted a "historical opportunity" to improve relations between Greece and Turkey, suggesting that unresolved issues and conflicts from previous decades could now be addressed. He expressed Germany's willingness to assist in efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions, which also encompass the complex situation regarding Cyprus. During a joint press conference with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetridis, Wanderful responded to questions about the potential candidacy of the Republic of Cyprus for NATO membership. He noted that previous hopes of resolving the Cyprus issue tied to the accession of the Republic had not materialized and instead made the situation more complicated.
