Morrisons introduces huge change in supermarket car parks as statement issued

Morrisons has introduced a new initiative that rewards electric vehicle drivers with extra loyalty points at its supermarket car parks.

Morrisons, one of the UK's leading supermarket chains, has implemented a noteworthy change in its car park operations aimed at promoting electric vehicle (EV) usage. In partnership with Motor Fuel Group (MFG), Morrisons is offering EV drivers an incentive to shop at their stores by providing extra loyalty points when they charge their cars in the supermarket parking lots. This initiative allows customers to earn 5 Morrisons More points for every £1 spent while charging their EVs, enhancing the shopping experience for environmentally conscious consumers.

The rollout of this program commenced over the past weekend and involves the installation of 250 dedicated parking bays for electric vehicles at Morrisons locations. The supermarket chain, which is part of the 'big four' retailers in the UK alongside Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Asda, operates a wide network of stores, including 497 supermarkets and over 1,700 convenience outlets. This strategic move not only supports the company’s sustainability goals but also aligns with the increasing consumer demand for EV-friendly services as climate concerns mount.

In addition to enhancing its car park facilities, MFG is investing significantly—approximately £105 million—in upgrading Morrisons' forecourts, further improving the infrastructure for EV charging. As supermarkets adapt to changing consumer needs and environmental challenges, initiatives like this are critical in promoting the use of electric vehicles while positioning Morrisons as a progressive leader in the retail grocery sector. This forward-thinking approach could significantly impact customer loyalty and shopping behavior as more drivers transition to electric mobility.
