Group arrested suspected of diverting 701 tons of soy on a farm in MT
Eleven people were arrested in Brazil for their alleged involvement in a scheme diverting 701 tons of soybeans from a farm in Mato Grosso.
On Tuesday, November 17, Brazilian police arrested eleven individuals as part of an operation that dismantled a criminal scheme responsible for the qualified theft of approximately 701 tons of soybeans from a farm located in Campo Novo do Parecis, which is situated 397 km from Cuiabá. The operation spanned several municipalities including Barra do Bugres, Nova Mutum, Lucas do Rio Verde, Tangará da Serra, Guarantã do Norte, and Diamantino, leading to 11 search and seizure operations, the seizure of 12 vehicles, the freezing of bank accounts, and the breaking of telecommunication privacy.
Authorities reported that the investigations indicated the group was implicated in at least 14 irregular grain shipments occurring between May 2nd and 9th, 2025, resulting in an estimated loss of R$ 1.1 million for the victimized company. The operation shed light on how the group operated in an organized manner to divert the cargo, involving employees connected to the loading processes, classifiers, and truck drivers.
This incident highlights the growing issue of agricultural crime in Brazil, which has significant implications for local farmers and the overall economy. As enforcement actions increase, the authorities aim to curb such illegal activities that not only harm businesses but also threaten the integrity of the agricultural sector in the region.
