New DVSA Announcement Confirms May and June 2026 Dates for Driving Test Rules Change
The DVSA has announced new driving test rules set to take effect in May and June 2026, aiming to streamline the booking process and curb exploitation by third-party services.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has confirmed new regulations for car driving tests that will come into effect in May and June 2026. As part of these changes, from May 12, 2026, only learner drivers will be able to book or make amendments to their driving test arrangements, which is intended to enhance fairness in the system. Additionally, from June 9, 2026, specific location restrictions will be imposed for learners wishing to relocate their booked driving tests.
These updates follow a national consultation on how to improve the driving test booking regulations, reflecting the DVSA's commitment to ensuring a more equitable environment for learner drivers. One significant aspect of this reform is a reduction in the number of times a learner can amend their test date from six to just two changes starting March 31, 2026. This move is designed to streamline the process and mitigate issues caused by third-party services that have been criticized for taking advantage of the existing booking framework.
The DVSA's initiative comes at a time when many learners have expressed frustration regarding the test booking process. By implementing these new rules, the agency aims to empower learners while tackling the exploitation of the system by unauthorized third parties that have profited from reselling driving test slots. The anticipated outcome is a fairer, more focused approach to driving tests that better serves the needs of new drivers in the UK.
