BC announces liquidation of Banco Master Múltiplo, previously under special administration
The Central Bank of Brazil has announced the extrajudicial liquidation of Banco Master Múltiplo due to its irrecoverable insolvency.
On Tuesday, the Central Bank of Brazil declared the extrajudicial liquidation of Banco Master Múltiplo, marking a significant operational halt for the financial institution which was previously managed under a special administration regime. This move was deemed necessary as the bank's financial distress was deemed irrecoverable, and its closure was determined not to threaten overall financial stability in the region.
Banco Master Múltiplo had been under Temporary Special Administration Regime (RAET) since November of the previous year, intended to manage crises for financial institutions deemed vital for economic stability. Initially, this regime allowed the bank to continue normal activities; however, it ultimately led to the decision for liquidation after the situation did not improve. The bank is closely associated with Daniel Vorcaro, a significant figure in Brazil's banking sector.
The liquidation process has been entrusted to EFB Regimes Especiais de Empresas, a clear indication of the seriousness of the bank's financial woes. This action highlights the Central Bank's oversight role in ensuring that the closure of such institutions, while inherently disruptive, does not destabilize the broader financial system, aiming to mitigate potential risks to economic stability in Brazil.
