Nordea cuts 1500 positions
Nordea is planning to cut 1500 jobs internationally, affecting its workforce in Norway as part of a restructuring effort.
Nordea has announced plans to reduce its international workforce by 1500 positions, which will also impact its operations in Norway. According to Jørgen Suo Lønnquist, a board member and chief union representative at Nordea, while reductions will also occur in Norway, the specifics regarding the extent have yet to be discussed. It is expected that these cuts will largely be voluntary, thereby minimizing forced layoffs during this restructuring process.
The cuts are set to affect around 1500 employees over the course of 2026 and 2027, and Nordea anticipates conducting negotiations with labor unions and employees as part of this reorganization. The financial implications of this restructuring are significant, with Nordea indicating it will book restructuring costs of approximately 190 million euros (2.11 billion NOK) in the first quarter of 2026. The company expects that these changes will lead to annual cost reductions of at least 150 million euros starting in 2028.
As of now, Nordea employs over 3300 people in Norway and around 31,800 employees in total, with a notable concentration of staff in Finland, where the company's Nordic headquarters is located. This restructuring strategy aims to streamline operations and align the bank’s workforce with its strategic objectives, emphasizing a shift in the composition of skills within the company.
