Irregularities in INSS: Federal Police Launches New Phase of Operation Sem Desconto

The Federal Police and the General Controller of the Union in Brazil initiated Operation Indébito to investigate unauthorized association discounts on pensions and retirement benefits.

In Brazil, the Federal Police and the General Controller of the Union (CGU) have launched Operation Indébito, an extension of the ongoing Operation Sem Desconto, aimed at uncovering a nationwide scheme involving unauthorized association discounts on pensions and retirement payments. This operation, which commenced on Tuesday, involves extensive law enforcement action including the execution of 19 search and seizure warrants, as well as two arrest warrants and various other precautionary measures across the states of Ceará and the Federal District.

The judicial warrants were granted by the Supreme Federal Court, under the oversight of Minister André Mendonça. The aim of these investigations is to delve deeper into the illicit practices uncovered in the original Operation Sem Desconto, which is probing various crimes such as falsifying data in official systems, forming criminal organizations, committing pension fraud, and engaging in activities related to asset concealment and depletion. As a result, the operation addresses significant concerns regarding the security and integrity of Brazil's pension system.

This initiative highlights the ongoing efforts by Brazilian authorities to combat corruption and fraud within social security frameworks, which has wide implications for the welfare of millions of pensioners. The revelations from this operation are expected to foster greater scrutiny and possibly prompt legislative reforms to safeguard the pension system against such malpractices in the future.
