Investigation Launched into I. Ruginienė and Her Family's Travels

An investigation has been initiated by the VTEK regarding the conduct of Prime Minister I. Ruginienė related to official trips involving her and her family.

The Lithuanian Public Ethics Commission (VTEK) has announced the commencement of an investigation into Prime Minister I. Ruginienė's adherence to legal guidelines during her trips. This inquiry will specifically examine two instances: a decision she signed on February 4, when she traveled to Milan for the Olympics, and a second decree concerning her visit to the Vatican in Rome on March 3. The VTEK chairman, Gediminas Sakalauskas, clarified that the initiation of the investigation does not imply any legal violation at this stage.

Sakalauskas also stated that according to law, the investigation's results are required within three months, although it could be extended by an additional two months if the case proves complex. He noted that such investigations typically take around three months to conclude, reflecting the organization's commitment to thoroughly reviewing the circumstances surrounding the Prime Minister's travel.

This investigation comes at a time when Prime Minister Ruginienė is facing criticism regarding her leadership style and has been labeled by some as a target for political attacks. The scrutiny over her travel arrangements, particularly concerning the inclusion of close family members in these official delegations, could raise questions about her governance and ethics, adding another layer of complexity to her political standing and future engagements.
