"In Congo, we were filmed as an attraction. We experienced a police chase," describes a famous photographer

Photographer Alžběta Jungrová shares her experiences from a recent expedition in the Republic of Congo aimed at raising awareness about endangered species and poaching.

Alžběta Jungrová, a renowned Czech photographer, recently embarked on a nearly two-week expedition to the Republic of Congo with a group of Czech artists. Their mission was to draw attention to endangered species and the rampant poaching affecting them. During their journey, they encountered unique wildlife moments, including close encounters with gorillas, and overcame significant challenges due to the difficult, often rural terrain.

The group spent extended periods trekking through the savanna in extreme heat and humidity, far from established infrastructure, which posed additional risks and challenges. Jungrová spoke of the endurance required for their daily hikes, sometimes lasting four to five hours, emphasizing the demanding nature of the expedition. Despite her past experiences in conflict zones, she admitted to moments of fear, particularly during unexpected encounters, such as a police chase, which added a dramatic twist to their journey.

The ultimate goal of their expedition was not only to document the beauty and importance of the Congo's wildlife but also to produce artworks that will be auctioned for charity. Jungrová expressed a deep emotional connection with the natural landscapes she encountered, indicating that her photographic focus will likely highlight the tranquil beauty of nature, which profoundly impacted her during this meaningful experience.
