This decrease in profitability can be attributed to a reduction in interest income, which amounted to 1.282 billion euros, a 17.2% drop from the previous year. Additionally, while interest expenses fell by 21.1% to 338.367 million euros, the overall financial environment appears to have negatively impacted earnings.
