1.7 billion barrels of oil at sea on 1,467 ships
The report reveals that 1.7 billion barrels of crude oil are currently being transported on 1,467 ships, providing a significant buffer for energy security amid geopolitical tensions.
Recent analysis by Xclusiv Shipbrokers indicates that there are 1.7 billion barrels of crude oil on 1,467 tankers currently at sea, offering a crucial energy security cushion for the global economy. This data, derived from the Signal Ocean Platform, highlights how these vessels were operational before the closure of the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz and are transporting oil mainly to the Asia-India region.
John Cotzias, co-founder of Xclusiv Shipbrokers, emphasized that the stock of crude oil at sea could serve as a strategic buffer, equivalent to approximately 85 days of exports from the Persian Gulf. Given that the Arabian Gulf produces around 20 million barrels per day, with a substantial portion already committed to these tankers, the global market stands to benefit from this reserve as it navigates potential disruptions in supply chains.
This analysis comes at a critical time when geopolitical tensions have raised concerns over energy supply disruptions, making the presence of such a vast quantity of oil at sea particularly significant. The situation reflects broader trends in global energy security strategies and the shipping industry's role in stabilizing markets during turbulent times.
