Companies hindered by poor mobile coverage – only one operator works in Claestorp
A survey shows that eight out of ten entrepreneurs across several regions in Sweden seek better and more stable internet connections for their digital development, highlighting inadequacies particularly in rural areas like Claestorp.
A recent survey indicates that a significant number of entrepreneurs in various regions of Sweden, including Örebro, Östergötland, and Stockholm, perceive improved and stable internet connectivity as crucial for their business development. This demand is especially pronounced in rural areas, where many businesses struggle due to the limitations of mobile network coverage, with a report from Bredband Mellansverige noting that half of the companies in rural Södermanland regard the coverage and performance of mobile networks as a major impediment to their digitalization efforts.
In Claestorp, located near Katrineholm, various enterprises such as farming, tourism, and property management are adversely affected by the lack of adequate mobile coverage. Only one mobile operator provides service in the area, which poses challenges for business operations and expansion. Cecilia Lewenhaupt, the CEO of Claestorp, emphasizes that having access to multiple operators and improved technologies like 5G could significantly enhance their connectivity options.
The ramifications of poor mobile coverage extend beyond mere inconvenience; they can restrain business growth, limit technological adoption, and hinder overall economic progress in rural regions. As companies call for better infrastructure to support their digital needs, local authorities may need to reassess investment strategies to improve connectivity, reflect on policies that encourage competition among service providers, and ultimately foster economic development in underserved areas.
