Polish AI loses to giants. The test of models yielded surprising results

A new Polish test for large language models reveals that local AI tools lag behind major international competitors, notably Google's AI.

A newly developed test in Poland aimed at evaluating large language models (LLMs) has produced surprising results, indicating that local AI technologies face significant challenges against their global counterparts. The test encompassed 20 tasks across 10 categories, examining various practical skills such as email drafting, entrepreneurial advice, legal and tax support, and aspects of Polish culture like reciting verses from 'Pan Tadeusz' and identifying Christmas traditions. These criteria were expected to favor Polish AI models, given their relevance to the local context.

However, the findings revealed that Google’s AI emerged victorious in the ranking, highlighting the substantial gap in performance between Polish solutions and international giants. Alarmingly, the Chinese AI tool Qwen also placed impressively, outperforming LLMs from Meta, showcasing fierce competition in the realm of AI. This raises concerns for the future of Polish AI development, emphasizing the need for enhancement in training models and resources to compete at a global level.

The results from this test serve as a wake-up call for Polish developers and policymakers aiming to boost the local AI ecosystem. The ability of international companies to deliver superior AI solutions suggests an urgent need for investment in research, innovation, and collaboration within the domestic industry to enhance competitiveness and ensure that Poland can carve out its niche in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.
