The owner of Club Chemistry in Canterbury has provided an update regarding a severe meningitis outbreak that has already claimed the lives of at least two individuals. A member of the club's staff is currently hospitalized with confirmed meningitis, prompting a response to protect others possibly affected by the outbreak linked to the venue. The club owner, Louise Jones-Roberts, mentioned that the affected staff member is receiving treatment and is awaiting further tests to assess their recovery status.
In addition to the hospitalized staff member, two other club personnel are in the Accident & Emergency department with suspected cases of meningitis, and their test results are still pending. Given the severity of the situation, the owner has proactively contacted approximately 90 of the club's 95 staff members, advising them to take antibiotics as a precautionary measure.
