‘Mean tweets’ video of Avi Lewis has Alberta New Democrat calling for apology
Former Alberta NDP minister Shannon Phillips has called for an apology from NDP leadership contender Avi Lewis due to a resurfaced video wherein he jokes about her losing her cabinet position.
Former Alberta NDP environment minister Shannon Phillips is demanding an apology from Avi Lewis, a frontrunner in the NDP leadership race, following the resurfacing of a video that dates back to September 2020. In the video, Lewis and his wife Naomi Klein react to "mean tweets" regarding their controversial Leap Manifesto, which aimed to transition away from fossil fuels and was pushed unsuccessfully for endorsement at the NDP’s 2016 convention in Edmonton. The clip features Lewis reading out a derogatory tweet that labels him as an 'extreme radical eco-terrorist' for his environmental stance, which he humorously interprets as a misstep on his part for sympathizing with Phillips' situation.
