Häkkänen on the Hormuz Operation: Finland may not have the resources or ability to participate
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen believes Finland's involvement in the Hormuz operation is unlikely due to limited resources and capabilities.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen has expressed doubts about Finland's capacity to participate in the Hormuz operation, discussing the issue on A-studio this Monday. He indicated that while participation could be economically beneficial for Finland, the nation currently lacks the necessary resources or capabilities to engage in such a mission. Häkkänen emphasized the uncertainty relating to Finland’s potential involvement, pointing out that it is a distant prospect at this time.
Furthermore, Häkkänen highlighted the importance of discussions within the EU regarding each country's participation in the Hormuz operation, noting that it is significantly more dangerous than previous operations. He mentioned that the mission is closely tied to a conflict zone, making it essential to approach this situation with caution and not to compare it directly with prior missions that were less perilous.
In agreement with Häkkänen, Member of Parliament Mika Kari raised concerns about both the political aspect and the availability of the necessary equipment for such an operation. Kari conveyed skepticism about whether Finland possesses the appropriate military hardware required for participation. This exchange reflects wider discussions within Finland regarding defense commitments and the challenges of responding to international military operations.
