On Monday afternoon, a serious incident occurred in the maritime area of Meis when a FRONTEX vessel capsized and subsequently sank. The Greek Coast Guard provided details and audiovisual material regarding the incident. The statement clarified that this took place at approximately 16:30 during the vessel's departure from the port of Meis.

The vessel was carrying five individuals, including the Estonian ambassador to Greece and three crew members of Estonian nationality, in addition to one member of the Greek Coast Guard who was serving as a liaison. The Coast Guard and a private catamaran were promptly mobilized and successfully rescued all five occupants. They were initially taken to the Meis Health Center for first aid, and four of the rescued individuals were later transported by a helicopter for further medical care.
