Marinko Matosevic, a former Australian tennis player turned coach, has been handed a four-year ban from the sport after admitting to multiple breaches of anti-doping regulations. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) stated that Matosevic committed five violations between 2018 and 2020, including one where he used a prohibited method involving blood doping, as well as advising a fellow player on similar illicit practices. At the peak of his career, Matosevic achieved a singles ranking of 39 in 2013 before his retirement in 2018. Importantly, the ITIA has clarified that there is no indication that either O'Connell or Thompson participated in any rule breaches, suggesting that Matosevic's activities were personal and did not implicate his current trainees.
