Smuggling Balloons Again Near Vilnius: Could Disrupt Flights
The National Crisis Management Center warns pilots about navigation signals indicative of smuggling balloons near Vilnius, leading to potential flight diversions.
The National Crisis Management Center (NKVC) representative Darius Buta informed 15min that a warning was issued to pilots at 20:50 and is in effect until midnight. This alert aims to ensure civil aviation safety due to observed navigation identifiers characteristic of smuggling balloons in the area. As a precaution, flights may be diverted to holding patterns or redirected to other airports, although operations at Vilnius Airport remain normal for the time being.
According to Buta, the aeronautical navigation authority has disseminated a warning regarding unidentified objects in the Lithuanian airspace that could necessitate flight diversions. However, he emphasized that Vilnius Airport is currently operating as usual and has not yet been affected. The services are closely monitoring and analyzing the movement of these navigation identifiers to maintain safe flights.
Passengers are advised to stay updated with announcements from airports and airline companies. If the situation changes, the NKVC has promised to provide updated information to keep travelers informed about any potential changes to flight schedules due to the ongoing situation with the smuggling balloons.
