A peculiar phenomenon in the sky over Mazovia. Experts have spoken out

A bright meteor was observed in the sky over Mazovia, Poland, shortly before midnight, capturing the attention of residents and experts alike.

On the night of March 14, a bright meteor, or bolid, illuminated the sky over Poland, particularly noticeable in the northwestern part of Mazovia. Monitored by Skytinel, a network of bolide observation stations, the event occurred just before midnight. Residents of Poland were treated to a spectacle as the meteor lit up briefly, being characterized as a "relatively slow and bright bolid" with clear fragmentation as it descended through the atmosphere.

According to initial reports from the Skytinel project, the meteoroid entered the Earth's atmosphere at a speed of 15.3 kilometers per second. At an altitude of approximately 44 kilometers, the rock broke apart, leading to several fragments becoming visible as they glowed and slowly melted away. The bolid ultimately extinguished between the towns of Płońsk and Żuromin, piquing the interest of astronomers and locals alike.

This event highlights the importance of monitoring such phenomena and adds to the growing body of knowledge regarding meteor occurrences in Poland. As experts continue to analyze the data from the Skytinel project, this incident serves as a reminder of the dynamic nature of our atmosphere and the captivating events that can unfold above us, exciting both the scientific community and the general public.
