Florida, feds arrest 15 illegal immigrants with criminal records in ‘targeted’ operation
Fifteen illegal immigrants with criminal records were arrested in Key Largo, Florida, during a coordinated operation involving state and federal authorities.
In a focused enforcement operation, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and U.S. Border Patrol arrested 15 illegal immigrants in Key Largo on March 9. This operation, termed 'Operation Tidal Wave,' was executed by FHP's Criminal Alien Apprehension Team (CAAT) in conjunction with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to address illegal immigration and enhance public safety in Florida.
The individuals apprehended were reported to have significant criminal backgrounds, encompassing charges related to battery, domestic violence, drug possession and distribution, burglary, and other serious offenses such as aggravated battery and firearm-related crimes. Some of these suspects also had records of prior deportations and failures to comply with court appearances. Florida officials highlighted the importance of this operation, asserting that such actions are critical to maintaining security and order within communities across the state.
The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Executive Director, Dave Kerner, emphasized the proactive stance taken by the state in targeting individuals who have committed violent crimes. This approach reflects an ongoing strategy to engage local and federal resources in operations aimed at identifying and removing criminal elements among illegal immigrant populations, underscoring a significant law enforcement priority as part of broader immigration enforcement measures.
