Textiles and Shoes Now in SENT. Many Uncertainties Regarding This System
The SENT system in Poland has been expanded to include textiles and footwear due to alarming levels of grey market activity.
The Electronic Transport Supervision System (SENT) in Poland is designed to monitor the transport of sensitive goods like fuel and alcohol. As of March 17th, 2023, the system has been expanded to include clothing and footwear. The Polish Ministry of Finance justified this extension by highlighting the growth of pathological phenomena in the clothing and footwear trade, where the grey market has reached concerning levels.
With the inclusion of these new goods, businesses are now required to report every transport of such goods to the tax authorities, detailing both the start and end of each transport. Moreover, vehicles transporting these goods must be equipped with geolocation devices. This requirement aims to enhance oversight and reduce illegal trade practices, which can undermine legitimate businesses and government revenue.
This expansion of the SENT system raises several uncertainties among businesses and stakeholders in the textile and footwear sectors regarding compliance, operational costs, and potential impacts on the market. Many are seeking clarification on the implementation of these regulations and how they will be enforced, which could affect the availability and pricing of textiles and footwear in Poland.
