This enforcement period coincided with the arrival of Defense Minister Gian Carlo Loffredo and Chief of Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Henry Santiago Delgado Salvador, in Machala for a security meeting at the ECU911 facility. The nighttime mobility restriction was imposed following Executive Decree 329, which is part of the ongoing state of emergency in the region.
The curfew, which is also applied to the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, aims to maintain order and safety amid rising concerns regarding public security. According to the police report released on Monday morning, the majority of arrests occurred in Machala, where 12 individuals were detained, alongside additional arrests in Zaruma, Piñas, Santa Rosa, and Pasaje, highlighting the widespread efforts to enforce the curfew.
