Defense Minister and Chief of Joint Command of the Armed Forces hold security meeting in Machala

A total of 20 individuals were arrested in El Oro during the first night of curfew enforcement coinciding with a security meeting attended by Ecuador's Defense Minister.

In El Oro province, 20 people were apprehended during the initial night of curfew enforcement, which lasted from 11 PM to 5 AM. This enforcement period coincided with the arrival of Defense Minister Gian Carlo Loffredo and Chief of Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Henry Santiago Delgado Salvador, in Machala for a security meeting at the ECU911 facility. The nighttime mobility restriction was imposed following Executive Decree 329, which is part of the ongoing state of emergency in the region.

The curfew, which is also applied to the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, aims to maintain order and safety amid rising concerns regarding public security. According to the police report released on Monday morning, the majority of arrests occurred in Machala, where 12 individuals were detained, alongside additional arrests in Zaruma, Piñas, Santa Rosa, and Pasaje, highlighting the widespread efforts to enforce the curfew.

This coordinated police action reflects the Ecuadorian government's commitment to addressing security issues in El Oro Province as well as strengthening law enforcement capabilities during the declared state of emergency. The attendance of top defense officials underscores the seriousness of these measures, which aim to curb violence and criminal activity that have increasingly threatened public safety in the region.
