Social Democrats around Špidla plan to register a new party in June

The Social Democrats surrounding former leader Vladimír Špidla are planning to register a new party called New Social Democracy in June, aiming for independence from oligarch financing.

The Social Democrats associated with former party leader and Prime Minister Vladimír Špidla are in the stages of creating a new political party, tentatively named New Social Democracy. This initiative comes approximately six months after the party's significant electoral defeat in the last parliamentary elections and the loss of numerous members due to their alliance with the Communist Party. During a recent gathering held at the Atlas cinema in Prague, along with online participants, these supporters of social democracy discussed the imperative need for a fresh start.
