Latvian and German companies to collaborate on air defense system maintenance
Latvian and German companies have signed a memorandum to cooperate on the maintenance of the 'IRIS-T' air defense system in the Baltic region.
Latvian and German firms have entered into a memorandum of understanding for the maintenance of the mid-range air defense system 'IRIS-T' in the Baltic region, as announced by the Latvian Ministry of Defense. The agreement was signed by the German defense firm 'Diehl Defence' and the Latvian company 'Ripo remonta centrs', which specializes in vehicle repair and maintenance. This collaboration signifies a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing regional defense capabilities in line with NATO standards.
The memorandum outlines the principles of cooperation and confirms both parties' intentions to establish a joint venture to provide maintenance, repair, and technical support services for the 'IRIS-T' air defense system in the Baltic states. Notably, 'Ripo remonta centrs' is co-owned by Dzintars Balodis and Ivo RubΔ«ns, who hold significant stakes in the company. According to firm data, 'Ripo remonta centrs' reported a turnover of 1.215 million euros and a profit of 103,585 euros in 2024.
This strategic partnership underscores the growing defense collaboration between Latvia and Germany, indicating a commitment to bolster air defense mechanisms in the region.
