Cat food from Raakraft recalled
Salling Group has recalled two types of cat food from Raakraft due to suspicions that it may cause potassium deficiency in cats.
The Salling Group has initiated a recall of two types of Raakraft cat food following concerns raised by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration regarding the potential for the food to cause potassium deficiency in felines. Symptoms that may be exhibited by affected cats include lethargy, difficulty holding up their head, stiff gait, and reduced appetite, which can in severe cases lead to fatal outcomes if not addressed.
The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has received reports of cats demonstrating symptoms consistent with hypokalemia, a medical condition characterized by low potassium levels in the blood. Analytical results reveal that the potassium levels in the recalled cat food are below the minimum recommendations for feline dietary requirements. In addition to the deficiency in potassium, there are suspicions that the food may also lack vitamin B1 and contain dangerously low levels of mycotoxin, posing further health risks to pets.
The affected products were sold across various grocery store chains in Denmark, including Fรธtex, Netto, and Bilka, as well as Salling Super locations in Aarhus and Aalborg. Pet owners are advised to check their supplies and seek veterinary attention if their cats exhibit any symptoms associated with potassium deficiency. This recall underscores the importance of regulatory oversight in ensuring pet food safety and the potential consequences when food standards are not adequately met.
