Lebanon: Over 1 million displaced in two weeks
Since March 2, over one million people have been registered as internally displaced in Lebanon due to Israeli attacks, according to government authorities.
Since March 2, Lebanon has seen a significant humanitarian crisis with over 1 million individuals registered as internally displaced due to ongoing Israeli military operations. The authorities reported that as of Monday afternoon, the registered number had reached 1,049,238. This surge in displacement illustrates the severity of the situation on the ground, as families seek safety away from conflict areas.
Among the displaced, nearly 130,000 individuals have found refuge in 600 collective shelters established to accommodate those fleeing the violence. The need for humanitarian assistance is critical, as many struggle to access basic necessities such as food, clean water, and medical care. This alarming number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) highlights the challenging circumstances faced by the Lebanese population amid escalating tensions in the region.
In addition to the displacement crisis, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported at least 866 deaths, including 111 children and 39 health workers, due to the Israeli attacks since March 2. These casualties indicate the severe impact of the conflict on civilian life and raise concerns about the ongoing safety and well-being of the affected populations. The international community may need to respond to prevent further deterioration of humanitarian conditions in Lebanon.
