Hockey World Cup with the biggest stars will also be held in Prague

The Hockey World Cup will take place in Prague in February 2028, marking the first time it will be hosted in Czechia.

In February 2028, Prague will host the Hockey World Cup, a significant international event that has not occurred in the country for 12 years. The World Cup will also take place in Calgary and Edmonton, and matches will be held at the O2 Arena in Prague, featuring six group stage games and one playoff match. This announcement was made by the NHL, the organizing body of the tournament, signifying a major milestone for hockey in the Czech Republic.

Tomáš Petera, the owner of Perinvest, which will manage the event in Czechia, emphasized the importance of this event for the international hockey community. He expressed gratitude towards the NHL and NHLPA for trusting them to host the tournament. Petera foresees substantial international interest, high attendance, and a significant economic impact on the country, similar to that seen with previous NHL games in Prague, which he also organized.

The Hockey World Cup previously occurred in 1996, 2004, and 2016, with the latter being hosted in Toronto where Canada emerged victorious. In the last tournament, Czech players struggled, finishing sixth out of eight teams, failing to advance past the group stage. The upcoming event in Prague is expected to reignite interest and support for hockey within the country, bolstering its reputation on the international stage.
