The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has arrested two heads of regional departments for their involvement in a corruption scheme. According to case documents, the organizers of the crime exploited a broker as their agent to extort $620,000 from the leader of a monopolistic amber business. In exchange for this sum, the criminals promised to terminate a criminal case previously filed against the entrepreneur’s company, highlighting the intertwining of organized crime and business in Ukraine. SBU's acting head, Yevhen Chmara, emphasized the agency's commitment to eradicating corruption, indicating that such practices, especially during wartime, are tantamount to treason against the state.
