Traffic congestion has been reported on Highway 9 near Tampere following an incident where a caravan tipped over. The accident occurred around 5:30 PM on a Monday evening near the Karkunvuori tunnel, as vehicles were traveling towards Pirkkala from Jyväskylä. According to Fintraffic, the flow of traffic towards Tampere has been significantly affected due to the incident.
The on-call fire chief Tomi-Pekka Olkkonen from the Pirkanmaa rescue service stated that the caravan, which was being towed by a 4x4 vehicle, began to sway and eventually tipped over onto the right lane of the highway. Fortunately, there were two people in the 4x4 at the time of the accident, but there were no reported injuries. The authorities have opened an additional lane at the Lahdesjärvi interchange for motorists to alleviate some of the congestion caused by the accident.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with the estimate for the towing service to arrive at the accident scene around an hour after 6 PM. Traffic conditions are expected to improve once the vehicle is cleared from the roadway, but drivers are advised to remain cautious due to potential residual congestion on the highway.
