The investigation into Cinturrino widens: two more police officers under investigation

The investigation into police officer Carmelo Cinturrino, arrested for the murder of a young Moroccan, has expanded to include two additional officers.

The investigation into police officer Carmelo Cinturrino, who was arrested for the voluntary manslaughter of Abderrahim Mansouri, has widened as two more officers from the Mecenate police station in Milan are now under investigation. Mansouri, a young Moroccan man, was killed during an anti-drug operation on January 26. The Milan prosecutor's office has charged one policewoman with false statements and another officer with unlawful arrest, leading to growing scrutiny of the police conduct during the incident.

In addition to these two newly implicated officers, four more officers are being investigated for aiding and abetting, as well as failure to assist Mansouri during the incident. Following the allegations, these officers have been reassigned to non-operational roles in different police stations away from their original assignments. With the number of officers now under investigation reaching seven, the situation raises serious concerns regarding police accountability and the use of force in anti-drug operations.

Upcoming phases of the investigation will include the summoning of eight witnesses, including drug dealers and addicts, to provide their testimonies during a preliminary hearing. This step aims to solidify their accounts and create a clearer picture of what transpired during the tragic incident. The developments signal a potential shift in how law enforcement-related fatalities are addressed in Italy, emphasizing the importance of oversight and transparency within the police force.
