The Brazilian Education Minister announced funding for the reconstruction of schools damaged by recent floods and the continuation of university hospital constructions in Juiz de Fora.
On Monday, October 16, Brazilian Education Minister Camilo Santana revealed plans for significant investments in educational infrastructure in Juiz de Fora and UbΓ‘, located in the Zona da Mata region. The announcement comes in the wake of devastating floods that have affected the area, costing over 70 lives and causing widespread destruction to facilities, including schools. As part of the response, Santana outlined a series of measures aimed at providing immediate support to rebuild these educational institutions and ensure continued learning for the affected students.
The minister emphasized that more than R$ 5 million will be allocated for emergency actions through the Direct Money to School Program (PDDE). Specifically, this funding will target six schools in Juiz de Fora, which include the Municipal Schools AntΓ΄nio Faustino, Clotilde Hargreaves, Georg Rodembach, and others. The intention is not only to restore the physical infrastructure but also to strengthen the capacity of these schools to serve their communities in the wake of such a tragedy.
In addition to the school reconstruction plans, Minister Santana confirmed the resumption of construction on the University Hospital of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (HU-UFJF). This project is crucial for the region, as it will enhance healthcare access for students and residents alike. The combined initiatives signify a strong governmental commitment to address both educational and health infrastructure needs following the recent calamities, reflecting an integrated approach to recovery in Juiz de Fora and surrounding areas.
