Major Crisis for Qatar Due to Iran's War... Impact on Global Chip and Medical Industry

QatarEnergy has shut down its Ras Laffan facility, which produces a third of the world's helium, due to missile attacks from Iran, leading to potential disruptions in the semiconductor and medical sectors.

QatarEnergy announced the suspension of operations at its Ras Laffan facility starting around March 2, following missile and drone attacks from Iran. This facility is critical as it produces approximately 33% of the world's helium, a crucial element used to cool MRI machines, purify air for semiconductor chip manufacturing, and maintain rocket fuel under pressure. The halt in helium production, which amounts to around 5.2 million cubic meters per month, raises significant concerns not only for medical facilities relying on MRI scans but also for semiconductor manufacturers in South Korea and Taiwan, who are now on the verge of shutting down due to a lack of essential materials.
