Fantastic Ondra. At least four times he matched the world record, conquered a legendary route
Czech climber Adam Ondra has successfully matched the world record difficulty of 8c in bouldering four times this winter, showcasing his skills in outdoor climbing after stepping back from competitive indoor bouldering due to shoulder issues.
Adam Ondra, the best Czech climber, has recently made headlines by matching the world record difficulty of climbing routes graded 8c in flash style, achieving this remarkable feat four times since October. His ability to perform difficult climbs in the flash style, which entails ascending a route on the first attempt with prior knowledge of the hold's placements, has placed him in a notable position within the climbing community as he explores outdoor bouldering more intensively after stepping back from competitive formats. Ondra stated that he viewed bouldering more as a supplementary discipline in the past, yet this season's goal was to focus on less stressful outdoor challenges to gauge how far he could push his limits.
Having exited the competitive bouldering scene last year during the Czech Republic World Cup event due to shoulder pain caused by competitive indoor events, Ondra is now fully engaged in outdoor bouldering ventures that put less strain on the body. This change was significant as he describes his previous bouldering experiences as enjoyable but not entirely focused; he often dedicated his time to more considerable projects on outdoor cliffs. By re-entering and fully committing to bouldering, Ondra has adopted a refreshingly strategic approach, aiming to climb at least one 8c boulder in flash style this year, a difficulty benchmark that was set in the future by climber Yannick Flohé.
