'No talks with the USA...', India's response to deploying warships in Hormuz
India's Ministry of External Affairs clarified that there have been no bilateral discussions with the United States regarding the deployment of warships in the Strait of Hormuz to ensure safe navigation.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India stated on Monday that the country has not engaged in any bilateral discussions with the United States for ensuring the safe passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. This statement comes in the wake of a call from US President Donald Trump, who urged several nations to send warships to maintain the open status of this vital waterway. India emphasized that it would continue to engage in discussions on this issue with stakeholders and various other countries.
US President Donald Trump had posted on Truth Social, mentioning that countries like China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom are affected by Iran's potential attempts to close the Strait of Hormuz. He urged these nations to send warships to secure and maintain an open passage through the waterway. However, no immediate commitment has been reported from these countries in response to Trump's call.
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified that while India is aware of ongoing discussions among multiple countries regarding this issue, there have been no talks between India and the United States on a bilateral level. India's stance highlights its commitment to multilateralism and a cautious approach to foreign military engagements in regional maritime security matters.
