Nova Scotia, New Brunswick bracing for heavy rain, strong winds
Environment Canada has issued warnings for heavy rain and strong winds expected in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick on Monday.
Environment Canada has alerted residents of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick about severe weather conditions expected on Monday, with forecasts indicating heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts. The regions particularly affected include most of southern and central New Brunswick and both western and eastern parts of Nova Scotia. Initial predictions show that areas along the Fundy coast could receive significant rainfall, estimated between 40 to 60 millimeters, accompanied by wind gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour in New Brunswick.
The weather system is anticipated to start in the afternoon across New Brunswick, bringing with it two heavier pulses of rain, although a temporary lull in precipitation may occur overnight into Tuesday morning. Nova Scotia will similarly brace for adverse weather, with forecasts suggesting rainfall between 30 to 50 millimeters and wind gusts potentially reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour, also beginning in the afternoon.
The meteorological conditions could lead to rapid snowmelt due to unusually mild temperatures, raising concerns over potential flooding. Rainfall warnings have already been issued for parts of southern New Brunswick, and meteorologists warn that these warnings might need to be expanded as the weather situation evolves. Overall, residents are advised to prepare for the harsh weather forecasted ahead, as it poses a risk not only to travel and outdoor activities but also to local infrastructure during the intense weather period.
