Armed Forces destroy structures linked to criminal group in Durán during the first night of the curfew

Ecuador's Armed Forces conducted operations in Durán, destroying buildings used by a criminal organization during the first night of a curfew aimed at restoring order.

In response to escalating violence linked to organized crime in Ecuador, particularly in Durán, the National Defense Minister Gian Carlo Loffredo oversaw military operations on the evening of November 15 to November 16. The operations were conducted as part of the government's initiative to restore order in areas severely affected by crime. The military targeted a house in the El Arbolito sector that was used as a lookout point by members of the criminal organization known as Chone Killer (CK).

One of the critical outcomes of these operations was the intervention of a property owned by an individual with the alias 'Bob Marley', identified as a leader of the CK's faction. This faction has been implicated in various criminal activities, including kidnapping and extortion. Bob Marley is currently incarcerated at the Cárcel del Encuentro, which underscores the ongoing struggle between Ecuadorian authorities and organized crime groups that continue to exert influence and control over certain neighborhoods.

The curfew, which aims to reduce crime in the region, reflects a broader strategy being employed by the Ecuadorian government to combat the surge of violence that has plagued several provinces. The actions taken by the Armed Forces demonstrate a commitment to confronting these criminal organizations directly, yet raises questions about the long-term effectiveness of such military interventions in restoring public safety and order.
