Threat letter to Abuja communities not written by bandits — Police
The police in Abuja have clarified that a purported threat letter from bandits targeting local communities was fabricated by individuals attempting to incite fear.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command in Nigeria has officially refuted claims that a threat letter sent to communities in Abuja originated from bandits. Reports surfaced between March 15 and 16, 2026, alleging that suspected bandits threatened to attack the Kungaboku Community and its neighbor, Paze. This alleged threat was thought to be retaliation against the police for the recent killing of a bandit commander during a security operation.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh stated that investigations revealed the letter did not come from any bandit faction but was crafted by individuals aiming to create panic among local residents. The police underscored the false nature of the reports and clarified their ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Abuja communities.
Furthermore, the police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities rather than succumbing to fear fueled by misinformation. The incidents underscore the broader challenges faced in areas affected by banditry, highlighting the necessity for community solidarity and trust in law enforcement to effectively address security threats without falling prey to rumors.
