Magnesia Litera announced nominations. Kaprálová, Platzová, and Šerý have a chance
The nominations for the 2026 Magnesia Litera for prose include Dora Kaprálová, Magdaléna Platzová, and Ladislav Šerý, with an awards ceremony scheduled for April 18, 2025.
The 2026 Magnesia Litera nominations for prose have been revealed, featuring authors Dora Kaprálová with her work 'Mariborská hypnóza', Magdaléna Platzová for 'Fáze jedné ženy', and Ladislav Šerý with 'Tajný život institucí'. The awards will take place on April 18, 2025, at the Stavovské divadlo in Prague, as announced by Pavel Mandys along with the jury members of the organizing association Litera.
Kaprálová's 'Mariborská hypnóza' is also a finalist for the Literary Critique Awards, highlighting her unique narrative perspective that includes a fly's view, capturing her creative residency in the Slovenian city associated with writer Drago Jančar. The jury noted that her work intertwines magic realism with both real and fictional stories, making it a standout piece in contemporary Czech literature.
Platzová's 'Fáze jedné ženy' is described as a mature collection of short stories focusing on still-maturing heroines. Although the author draws from personal experiences, the work is not a literary autobiography, offering insights into the complexities of female growth and identity. Šerý's book 'Tajný život institucí' rounds out the nominations, contributing to the conversation on institutional life through a narrative lens.
