Moscow attacked by record number of drones: Ukrainian veteran reveals what awaits the Russians
Moscow has faced a major drone attack with reports indicating that over 250 drones were destroyed by air defense forces in recent assaults.
In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, Moscow has experienced unprecedented drone attacks starting on March 14. Over the course of two days, the cityβs mayor, S. Sobyanin, reported via his Telegram channel that approximately 250 drones were destroyed by air defense forces in the vicinity of Moscow. The Russian Ministry of Defense also acknowledged intercepting 145 unmanned aerial vehicles, including 53 over the Moscow region, adding to the chaos as witnesses described hearing explosions across the city and surrounding areas.
In response to the drone attacks, Rosaviatsiya (the Russian aviation authority) imposed restrictions at major airports, including Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo, citing the need for flight safety. Currently, only Vnukovo Airport is operating normally, while flights to and from other airports are adjusted in coordination with relevant authorities. These security measures underscore the heightening tensions and the ongoing threat posed by drone warfare in the region.
Ukrainian sources indicated that the assaults are being carried out using drones developed by the Ukrainian company Fire Point, with reports suggesting the attacks come in waves of 8-10 drones at a time. This tactical introduction of drone warfare illustrates the evolving nature of the conflict, as Ukrainian forces adopt innovative strategies to challenge Russian defenses, which could lead to escalating retaliatory measures from Russia.
