Alibaba reshuffles AI units into a new ‘Token Hub’ group, led by CEO Eddie Wu

Alibaba has established the Alibaba Token Hub Business Group to consolidate its core AI teams and products under CEO Eddie Wu's leadership.

Alibaba has announced the formation of the Alibaba Token Hub (ATH) Business Group, with the goal of enhancing coordination among its AI-related operations. This restructuring aims to unify various AI teams and products, which now operate collaboratively alongside the company's cloud services and e-commerce divisions. Notably, this includes leading projects such as the Tongyi Laboratory, which works on Alibaba's Qwen series of foundational AI models, as well as several new initiatives that reflect the company's commitment to improving AI capabilities.

The new ATH group incorporates critical units like the model-as-a-service business, which allows clients to utilize Alibaba's advanced AI models, and the Qwen business unit, focused on developing personal AI assistants. In addition, a team called Wukong has been established to create AI-integrated workflows tailored to the Dingtalk workplace suite. Alongside these, an AI Innovation unit has been dedicated to rapidly exploring new AI applications and business models, reinforcing Alibaba's intent to remain at the forefront of AI development in its industry.

By centering the ATH around the idea of the token, which serves as the core unit of computation generated by large language models, Alibaba is positioning itself strategically in the evolving AI landscape. This move signals a commitment to harness the power of AI technology not only in enhancing existing services but also in pioneering new business opportunities, emphasizing the value of innovation in AI as a driver for future growth and competitiveness in global markets.
