Lucknow: The road of the green corridor collapsed just 48 hours after inauguration

A newly constructed road in Lucknow's green corridor collapsed just two days after its inauguration by local officials.

The second phase of the green corridor road constructed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) unexpectedly collapsed near Birbal Sahni Marg in Lucknow. This incident occurred on a Sunday, just two days after the project was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on March 13. Fortunately, no fast-moving vehicles were on the road at the time of the collapse, minimizing potential injuries and damage. The LDA officials were alerted and immediately commenced repair works to address the situation.

Upon inspection, officials found that the road subsidence was caused by soil slippage and a leak in the sewer pipeline. A staff member from the company engaged in road repairs, Sewage India, admitted that sewer issues should have been considered during the construction process. However, the LDA issued a press release to defend its position, claiming that the area where the collapse occurred was part of a side ramp and not the main corridor. According to the LDA, the situation arose due to a leak in the water corporation's pipeline, implicating potential negligence in the construction process.

This incident raises serious questions about the construction quality and oversight of public infrastructure projects in Lucknow. With significant figures like the Chief Minister and Defence Minister inaugurating such projects, the early failure of the road could undermine public trust in the LDA's capabilities. Moreover, the response to the incident will likely be scrutinized, as citizens and officials seek assurances of better construction practices and accountability to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
